7 ideas on how to create connectivity, creativity and team harmony for your next business away-day.

The task of organising a business away-day or residential team building gathering can be daunting. How do you find the perfect balance for different tastes, needs and personalities so as to aid connectivity and creativity within the team? To add to the pressure more companies are having to make budgets stretch further, the five-star hotel is being replaced with glamping and AirBnb options to save on costs, and also options for away-days without overnight stays are becoming more and more popular too.

Whatever type of business experience your company needs right now, we look at some of the most important things to consider to help get it right and consider adding to your to do list…

  1. Location – getting away from the office (or home) is vital. A neutral venue is the best option to ensure everyone feels at ease. A break away in the countryside can provide the perfect calm to allow creativity and connect minds.

  2. Venue – always great to find a space that feels inspiring and creates the right space to get the most from your team.

  3. What is the aim? Are you clear on what you want to achieve, is it to set the vision and strategy or a thankyou and team building or a combination of the two? Or maybe its a time for wellbeing? Have a clear intention from the off and remind everyone why they are there and what are you all working together to achieve?

  4. Think about the journey you want to take people on, when do you want high energy and when do you want time for reflection. Plan your day around the mood you want to create.

  5. Let’s not forget to allow a little time for fun.... Not everyone enjoys the same activities, so sound out your team before you decide on what to arrange for your fun team building activity.

  6. How about time for learning? – inviting an external speaker may help the group to look outside the box for inspiration.

  7. Allow time for reflection - through meditation, yoga or coaching exercises to get the creativity flowing
